Alain Berinstain Function: Principal Investigator Affiliation: Canadian Space Agency Alain Berinstain was born in Montreal and holds a Bachelor's degree in chemistry and biochemistry and a doctorate in chemistry, specializing on the effects of radiation on biological systems. Alain also holds a Master of Space Studies from the International Space University. Alain first joined the Canadian Space Agency in 1997 where he managed microgravity science projects in the areas of protein crystallization and in fluid physics. Since 2001, Alain has been involved with the Planetary Exploration program. In 2004, Alain was appointed Director of Planetary Exploration and Space Astronomy of the Space Science Branch, responsible for such projects as the Canadian involvement in the Phoenix Mars mission, the Canadian involvement in the James Webb Space Telescope, and participates in the effort for putting together plans for Canada's role in the exploration of the Solar System. He holds an adjunct faculty position at the University of Guelph in the department of Environmental Biology, and carries out a research program in the Canadian high Arctic in the area of development of technologies for a Mars greenhouse. Alain is an avid glider pilot and private pilot and enjoys studying foreign languages. |
