    Lorenzo Flückiger

    Function: Software Lead for the K10 team

    Affiliation: NASA Ames Research Center

    Lorenzo Flückiger is a Senior Systems Scientist at Carnegie Mellon West, working on robotic projects for the NASA Ames Research Center. He his responsible for the software architecture and the continuous navigation system of the K10 rovers during the HMP field test.

    After a Master in Micro-Engineering, Lorenzo completed in 1998 his Ph.D. in Robotics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, creating a new virtual reality based interface for robot manipulators. A successful company is currently selling products directly derived from his Ph.D. thesis.

    Lorenzo pursued a Post-Doc at the NASA Ames Research Center, where he integrated his novel haptic device with the visualization software developed for the Mars Polar Lander Mission.

    Between 2001 and 2005 Lorenzo continued to work at NASA Ames with the QSS Group, Inc. as the lead architect of the Mission Simulation Facility. He managed 4 yearly releases of this software that has been used to develop, integrate and demonstrate autonomous software for the "Intelligent Systems" program. Since 2005, Lorenzo is working on several robotic projects led by NASA Ames. He his responsible of a new robot software architecture to support distributed control and human interactions.
