Grant Schaffner, Ph.D. Function: Researcher Affiliation: NASA Johnson Space Center Grant Schaffner was born in South Africa and grew up in Pretoria where he attended the Pretoria Boys' High School. In 1984, he moved to the United States to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT and a Ph.D. in Medical Engineering from the joint Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology Division. He currently works for Wyle Laboratories, a NASA Johnson Space Center contractor, where he serves as the Lead Engineer for the Exercise Countermeasures Project. Dr. Schaffner will be participating in the 10k EVA walkback experiment, in which he will serve as the metabolic gas system operator, a video cameraman, and a test subject. |
