Biologic and Medical Sciences Report July 1-8

  • July 1, 00- Andy Shuerger obtains soil samples of HMP base camp as baseline to monitor human activity changes in local flora. Jeff Jones establishes base camp medical tent with Andy and medical treatment capabilities are employed for HMP 2000 participants.

  • July 3, 00- Andy Shuerger, Charlie Cockell and Jeff Jones obtained soil samples of the future Mars habitat location as the background for comparison. This team determines plans for further basecamp sample acquisition.

  • July 5, 00- Telemedical Instrumentation Pack(TIP) arrives on Devon Island. The complete medical equipment and supply inventory is completed and updated with the supplies utilized noted as per the inventory protocol. Charlie Cockell and Patrick Van Hove went to Lake Cornell and collected shore samples.

  • July 6, 00- Telemedical Photos are obtained and the anonymous patient log updated, both are downlinked to the Exploration Planning and Operations room at the Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX.

  • July 7, 00- Andy Shuerger, Charlie Cockell and Jeff Jones obtain 1 week base camp soil samples. A full TIP examination is conducted and downlinked to the ExPOC Medical team at JSC. The updated medical supply inventory is downlinked as well as the current patient log to the medical team. Charlie Cockell, Pascal Lee, Patrick Van Hove and Mark Webb traversed to the south of HMP base camp. During the traverse a lemming was spotted and the ancient Haughton impact lake sediments were observed from a distance. Transmitted teledermatology consult to ExPOC, should be sent to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for evaluation.

  • July 8, 00- J Jones and Terry Guess performed a complete TIP examination on a second patient as well as field ultrasonagraphy, the images were stored for downlink to the ExPOC medical team to review, by Dave Martin specifically.
