The day started off with brilliant sunshine and heat that we have not seen for some time. Expectations for a productive and fun day were high. However the weather in this extreme climate can change rapidly. Today it was not so much the wind that was a problem but rather the rain. This though did not deter a couple of groups from heading out on traverses. Dr. Charlie Cockell our Chief Biologist went out to Cornell Lake and discovered two new lakes between Cornell and Stanford Lake. Oz Ozinski and Colleen Lenehan went out on a geology reconnaissance. Back at camp Dr. Jeff Jones began setting up for his telemedicine research while Tony Griffiths of NASA JSC waited patiently for his lost cargo to arrive. (Which it finally did) The Marines headed back to Resolute Bay to prepare for the arrival of the next C-130 Hercules flight. They will prepare the loads tonight for tomorrows paradrop which should take place in the afternoon or early evening. Tomorrow we are expecting several new arrivals including Rick Alena of NASA AMES who will continue his Mobile Exploration Technologies studies he started at HMP in the 1998 field season.
