Field Report

July 15, 2002 - Haughton Crater, Devon Island, Nunavut

It appears we've got a good stretch of weather. The forecast is for nice conditions through Friday. The wind is relative light at 5 knots and the temperature is hovering around 10°C.

Several traverses were completed today including one by geologist Gordon 'Oz' Osinski and his assistant Nesha Trenholm who mapped over 40KM around the Haughton Crater.

We had one flight in from Resolute with two new arrivals including our Chief Biologist, Charlie Cockell. Accompanying him was Jaret Matthews an engineer. We also received an amphibious ARGO off-road vehicle provided by Ontario Drive & Gear Limited.

We also have 3 webcams online. You can watch the construction of the greenhouse and other activities.

As the above image shows, working in the arctic requires us to be prepared for anything. Although this is summer a snow storm can materialize quickly.
