July 17, 2002 - Haughton Crater, Devon Island, Nunavut
After three great days of weather that allowed us to complete the Arthur Clarke Mars Greenhouse our weather is now
changing. Clouds are rolling in and the wind has picked and is gusting at 20 knots.
This evening we inaugurated the greenhouse with a small ceremony. After nearly a year of planning and a week
of actual construction it was with a sense of accomplishment that we completed the greenhouse. We will now outfit
the greenhouse with sensors to characterize the environment.
Several traverses are planned today including Chief Biologist Charlie Cockell
heading out to the Lake Trinity area to continue our biology research. As well Gordon 'Oz' Osinski has headed out
with his assistant Nesha Trenholm to continue mapping the Haughton Crater.
We had a plane come from Resolute late in the afternoon with eight people and more equipment.
Our first science report is now available. Geologist Gordon 'Oz' Osinski provides us with our first
geology report.
