Sapphire Lake and Emerald Lake inside Haughton Crater Picture of the Day for Thursday, August 2, 2007 This image shows Sapphire Lake and Emerald Lake inside Haughton Crater. The grey looking hillside on the right of the image is breccia. Breccia is a rock composed of angular fragments of rocks or minerals in a matrix. This particular breccia hill is the result of the impact event when the asteroid or comet created the Haughton impact crater. Click on image for full resolution.
