Mars on Earth 2004

HMP Research Station Field Update

July 18, 2005

After over a week of poor weather that hampered flight access to the HMP Research Station the weather improved today enough to allow six Twin Otter flights in.

A total of 14 new people arrived at the HMP Research Station including the entire eight member Drilling Automation for Mars Exploration (DAME) team from NASA Ames Research Center, Georgia Tech and Honeybee Robotics. We are currently 34 people in camp.

The DAME project will get underway tomorrow with a reconnaissance of preferred available sites. The DAME project has brought a Mars-prototype (lightweight, no lubricants, low power) drill, designed and built by Honeybee Robotics.
