Mars on Earth 2004

Field Update

July 22, 2004 - The Arctic Wind Blows, Work Goes On

The weather has improved although the wind has really been blowing the last couple of days. Because of the strong crosswinds planes can't land and so new arrivals are stuck temporarily in Resolute. This is not unusual and in fact everyone who travels to the arctic is told to expect delays due to the weather. In comparison to previous field seasons this year's weather has been subpar. We usually get about 2 weeks of really good weather each year and hope that the next couple of days brings this much anticipated weather break.

Regardless of the weather, everyone continues on with their research and upgrades to our base camp facilities are proceeding as scheduled.
