HMP Research Station Field Update July 26, 2005
Space Shuttle Discovery Launches - HMP Research Station Watches and Cheers Today the space shuttle Discovery lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center and here in the high Arctic all the HMP Research Station participants watched attentively and cheered when Discovery lifted off the pad. We wish Discovery and her crew a safe and successful mission. (Click image for larger view.) 8:00 pm CDT Update Today the majority of the DAME Mars drill team left the HMP Research Station and we are now 24 people. To accompany the earlier report on the DAME project today we have a photo report on their great efforts. Dr. John Parnell of the University of Aberdeen led a geology traverse today into accessible parts of the Haughton Crater. As well Dr. Jeff Jones conducted a demonstration of a NASA Johnson Space Center/Wyle Laboratories-developed methodology of remote ultrasound guidance for diagnostic imaging. A written report as well as photo report will be available tomorrow. The Mars Institute's Mars-1 Humvee Rover was brought back to the HMP Research Station after spending the last week supporting the DAME Mars Drill team at Trinity Lake. The rover will now be prepared for a potential series of traverses into the Haughton Crater. |
