July 4, 2003 Field Report

MARS-1 Humvee on Devon Island, Nunavut, Canada.

Yesterday three Twin Otter flights from Resolute Bay flew 11 participants to base camp on Devon Island, a 50 minute flight. The first flight included Project Lead and Principal Investigator (PI) Pascal Lee, base camp managers John Schutt (Lead) and Joe Amarualik (Deputy), and Jamie Kalluk a student from Resolute Bay.

The second flight of the day included Melanie Howell our camp cook, Adrien Bisset a graduate student from the University of Paris being sponsored by ESA, and Keith Cowing the Arthur Clarke Mars Greenhouse (ACMG) Program Manager. Keith took the picture to the right of Cape McBain and the Mars Institute's MARS-1 Huvee Rover.

The third flight included Canadian PI Stephen Braham, Alain Berinstain ACMG PI from the University of Guelph/Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Keegan Boyd (CSA), and Matt Silver(CSA).

Our next flight to base camp is scheduled for Saturday, weather permitting. Internet communication from base camp is expected to be online by next Tuesday. Communication in the meantime will be limited.
