NASA Haughton-Mars Project
Arthur Clarke Mars Greenhouse.

July 21, 2003

Well our streak of great weather has come to end. Although the clear blue skies we enjoyed for nearly two week are gone it did provide us with the perfect weather to setup, melt the lingering snow and then dry out the ground. The winds have picked up which has created a challenge for Larry Young's Mars Aircraft team, but they continue undaunted.

Now that the MARS-1 Humvee is in camp Stephen Braham and Trish Garner have been busy installing various eletronic gear so it can begin its first full field trials in a day or two. The greenhouse setup is coming along nicely. While plants grow the rest of the greenhouse is outfitted so that once we leave we can remotely monitor and control the greenhouse.

Leaving today are John Schutt, Rhoda Akeeagok, John Parnell, Steve Hoffman and Keith Cowing. Scheduled to arrive today are Brian Glass from NASA Ames Research Center, Addy Overbeeke and Stan Kusmider from Hamilton-Sundstrand, Sam Burbank from Inverse Square Films and Elaine Walker from ZIASpace.
