NASA Haughton-Mars Project
Mars Aircraft prepares to fly.

July 24, 2003

The last week has been the most intensive of the season with a significant increase in the exploration technology research areas. Hamilton Sundstrand has been testing their information technology interface in a concept spacesuit for advanced planetary exploration. At the same time the Mars aircraft team from NASA Ames Research Center has been testing three different aircraft. And finally the MARS-1 Humvee Rover has been outfitted with experimental communication gear and has headed out on another traverse.

The Arthur Clarke Mars Greenhouse outfitting is almost complete and the team has successfully switched over the power system from the camp power grid to its own. The greenhouse is now powered by solar panels and a windmill. This will allow for autonomous operation once we leave camp.
