Laurel Clark Memorial - Clark Point - Space Shuttle Columbia Inukshuk Memorials The Clark Point Inukshuk Memorial was named after astronaut Laurel Clark. It was established in July, 2003 at the edge of a high plateau overlooking a vast region of rolling hills and valleys 7 miles northwest of Haughton Crater. The panoramic view from Clark Point includes a vast section of Telemedicine Valley to the West, and the broad expanse of Vastitas Borealis to the South and East. The Clark Point Inukshuk was erected by NASA HMP Team members Joe Amarualik (Resolute Bay), Adrien Bisset (Mars Institute), Jamie Kalluk (Resolute Bay), Pascal Lee (NASA HMP PI), Gordon Osinski (Mars Institute), and John Schutt (NASA HMP Base Manager). Later that summer, the Clark Point Inukshuk helped guide the Mars-1 Humvee Rover crew safely back to the NASA HMP Base Camp during the vehicle's adventurous maiden voyage from Cape McBain to Haughton Crater. The rover team included Joe Amarualik, Rainer Effenhauser MD (NASA JSC), Steve Hoffman (NASA JSC), and Pascal Lee. The site was revisited in late July, 2003 by Jeffrey Jones MD (NASA JSC) and Brian Glass (NASA ARC) who established a regional gravity survey reference point at the site.
