William McCool Memorial - McCool Crossing - Space Shuttle Columbia Inukshuk Memorials

The McCool Crossing Inukshuk Memorial was named after astronaut William McCool. It was established on a beautiful hillside on the north side of the Endurance River, Devon Island, in July, 2003. The site offered the first opportunity for the HMP's Mars-1 Humvee Rover to safely cross the mighty river during its maiden voyage from Cape McBain to Haughton Crater.

The McCool Inukshuk was erected by NASA HMP Team members Joe Amarualik (Resolute Bay), Rainer Effenhauser MD (NASA JSC), Steve Hoffman (NASA JSC), and Pascal Lee (NASA HMP PI).

Location: Devon Island 75° 00.5 N, 89° 26.4 W
